Use an equal split when guests want to pay the same amount, an item split when they pay for their own dishes, or an amount split when they have agreed specific contributions. Confirm the bill and discounts first; allocating shares is not confirmation of payment.
Confirm the bill before choosing a split
Check the table, items, quantities, additions and payments already received. Agree how guests will share common dishes. Review applied membership benefits and checkout discounts before quoting individual amounts.
An employee with the required permissions should handle checkout. Available actions depend on the bill state; a paid bill is not a draft that can be freely reallocated.
Choose the method that fits the group
Equal split: guests agree to share the amount due evenly. This suits a shared meal. Check the number of people, each share and the rounding allocation shown by the system.
By item: guests pay for selected dishes. Check assigned items and quantities. Agree how to share common dishes, then use the supported controls to handle them.
By amount: guests have agreed specific contributions. Check that all shares add up to the balance due and that the last share has not been missed.
Collect each share and check what remains
Confirm each share and payment method, collect payment, then check the confirmed result and remaining balance. Creating shares does not charge a card.
For an independent card terminal, confirm success before recording payment against the correct share. If the result is unclear, check it before charging again. After reconnecting, check the latest payment state first.
- Match the payment to the correct share and amount.
- Confirm the result before moving to the next guest.
- Review the remaining balance and actual payments before closing checkout.
Check the state before making changes
If guests add items or change an offer during checkout, review the latest bill and available actions before continuing. Do not assume paid shares can be recalculated automatically.
Refunds need the appropriate permissions and refund process. Changing an allocation or printing a bill neither refunds money nor proves that the bill has been paid in full.
MenuSnap frequently asked questions
Is splitting equally the same as taking separate card payments?
No. The split determines the amounts; the payment method determines how they are collected. Each share still needs a confirmed payment result.
Will all discounts combine when splitting?
No. Eligibility depends on benefit rules, order conditions, permissions and plan access. Review the applied benefits before confirming each share.
